A bird paradise can be made from both large and small bird gardens. All you have to do is create a place where the birds can find exactly what they need: food, shelter, and a place to build a nest. Birds must be able to hide under or behind dense bushes. Insects must also come into the garden. And that works especially with lots of flowers. A tree or some large shrubs for a nest is also highly desirable.
Bird Garden
Birds need places to hide. Densely growing shrubs are very suitable for this. A hedge is also more fun for birds than a fence. The hawthorn is a very suitable hedge because birds can make nests in it because it produces flowers, and berries grow on it in winter. If you do opt for a fence, let ivy grow against it. Over time, it has grown nice and close and birds can nest in it. Climbing hydrangea is also very suitable.
A flower garden is very attractive to birds. Flowers attract insects and most birds live on them. They also feed their young with it. The bird garden should not be too neatly maintained either.
Make a corner somewhere where pruned branches are. The birds like to crawl in and under it. Leave plants with seeds in the winter, then many birds also have something to peck.
A bird bath is also ideal for birds. Birds come to drink and often they will also take a bath, splashing and all. A bird will also like to bathe at the edges of a shallow pond. It must be a place with little vegetation because a bird must be able to look around. The neighbor’s cat may be lurking.
The Four Seasons
Spring
As soon as spring announces itself, the garden becomes very busy. Nest boxes will be used by tits and sparrows. The bird males are looking for a place to build their nest. They start chirping and singing to lure a female. A male that sings a lot is strong and will be a suitable partner to raise the young. The females lay eggs and then incubate. In many birds, both males and females breed.
When the eggs hatch, the birds are busy. The young need protein-rich food: insects, spiders, worms, caterpillars. When the young fledge, they are also fed by their parents for a while. In summer with many insects, the birds start a second nest. Attractive for the birds, but also for the survival of insects: insect boxes.
Summer
After the breeding season, birds go into molt. Due to the many use, the wings have become worn, discolored, and brittle. A new feather deck is needed. The birds keep quiet during these weeks because the molt takes a lot of energy. Again, a lot of protein-rich food is needed. Again insects, and worms.
Autumn
After molting, a period of a few weeks during which the fat reserves must also be replenished, the migratory birds head south. The bird’s instinct shows him the way. Some birds fly in groups, but others fly alone. Every bird, young or old, knows its way around.
In the fall, birds will appreciate it very much if you feed the animals in the bird garden. This allows them to replenish their fat reserves more quickly. Peanuts, nuts, and fat balls are for sale in many shops. The birds love it.
Winter
The winter visitors are now coming from the north. They spend the winter here and then return to colder regions to nest and breed. Both the resident birds (the birds that stay here in the winter) and the winter visitors like to eat seeds and berries. Now is the time for the feeding tables, the suet balls, and the nets or strings of peanuts. Another season to fully enjoy the hustle and bustle in your garden.

Feeding
Birds need a lot of food to maintain their body temperature above 40 degrees Celsius. The nights are long and the birds are very hungry in the morning. Birds go in groups in winter following a set route through the gardens. They rely on food. Feeding or supplementing birds all year round produces active, strong animals that survive more easily and can start new nests again in the spring.
The changes in climate are causing problems for the birds. Insects and caterpillars are there before the nests are there. Feeding has therefore become very important. The parents will prefer to feed their young insects and then eat the food offered by humans. Birds that live in an urban environment also eat leftover rice or pasta. A feeding table is easy to make yourself.
A plate with raised edges, large enough for the birds to land, is very suitable. Rainwater must be able to run off. The table also needs to be cleaned, there is poop on it, and bacteria are forming. For smaller birds, there are peanuts and fat balls. Food vending machines are also very suitable. Larger birds cannot steal the food for the little ones.
Cat Nearby
Every year, millions of birds are the prey of a cat. Belling the cat is a good way to protect the birds. It is also wise not to let the cat go outside so early in the morning. Then it is feeding time for the birds and they are not so wary.
